It's Elementary -- December 2017 Newsletter

We did this last year and it was a lot of fun for the staff and students. Mr. Youel will be emailing out the list of dress up ideas starting on Dec. 6 th and finishing on Dec. 22. It is totally volunteer to participate or not.

There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, December 11.  Staff will be in an all day in-service.

Plans are being made for the

Elementary’s Holiday Gift Shop.  The shop will be open for our elementary students starting Thursday, December 14 through Wednesday, December 20.  Your child’s teacher will send home specific information telling which day your child’s class is scheduled to shop.  Items in the shop range in price from 50¢ to $5.00, but most of the items are $2.00 or less.  If you have items you would like to donate, you may bring them to the elementary beginning December 1.  Thanks for your support.  Proceeds go to pay for our activities and assembly during Redhawk Reading Month in February, as well a supporting the visiting author program.

The Elementary Winter Program will be held on Wednesday, December 13, at 1:00 p.m.  The performance will feature the fifth and sixth grade bands, in addition to songs by every grade level from K-6.  Admission for adults is $2.00 and students are $1.00.  Tickets are available at the door.

Students may go home with parents after the program by checking out with the teacher in their classroom.

The next regularly scheduled school board meeting will be held on Monday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m.

All classrooms will be having their Christmas parties on Friday, December 22.  If there is threatening weather, we will move the parties to earlier in the week if necessary.  We will keep everyone informed as we get closer to the dates.

For quite a few years the upper

elementary(4th -6 th grades) have not been exchanging gifts at

Christmas time. Instead they collect money, food and personal

hygiene supplies for the North Tama Food Bank. So any and all

donations will be greatly appreciated, during this season

of giving.

Elementary students will be dismissed on Friday, December 22 at 2:20 for the start of the Winter Break.

There will be no school December 23 through  January 2.  Classes will resume for all students on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.

With winter already here it would be good to review recess rules for the cold and snow.  We will stay in if the actual or wind chill temperature is below 10 degrees.  We also will stay in if there is too much ice on the playground.  Students are required to have a winter coat, hat, gloves, snow pants and boots to play on the playground with cold temperatures and snow.  Students will have to sit out recess if they do not have these, it may be inside or outside depending on what they do not have that is required.  Regular clothes get too wet if we allow a student to play in the snow without proper gear.  We have a limited amount of loaner gear to let students use if they forget, but you cannot count on the school having what they need and in the right size.  Please have and leave at school, if possible, these winter items.
